Local Location Spotlights
Our Stevens Point area is full of wonderful photography spots. The decision of where to have your session can have a major impact on the feel of your photos. Below you will find some of my favorites in the area!
Schmeekle Reserve
Schmeekle Reserve is located on the north end of Stevens Point and is actually part of the University. There you will find miles upon miles of trails and boardwalks through the woods and swamp as well as around the pond. It is rare for me to have a session there and not encounter some wildlife.
I love Schmeekle because it offers a ton of different backdrops and settings within one area… trees, tall grass, trails, benches… you name it!
Jordan Park
When most people think of Jordan Park, they think of the part that is north of highway 66 with the campground and beach. When I do sessions at Jordan, I actually go to the area south of the highway.
In this area there are some rocks with flowing water as well as woods, a small amount of trails, and a gorgeous bridge! Depending on how high the water is, it can even be a great location to get your feet wet for some added dramatic shots.
Downtown
Looking to get away from nature photos a bit? Downtown is another fantastic option. There are countless options of different colors and textures of brick, alleyways, and stairwells. You can also find some gorgeous murals that can add an awesome statement image or two to your session. In the summer, the fountain turns on every half hour for 15 minutes, so you can even get some fun photos with that if you are feeling adventurous!
Standing Rocks
This is a new favorite location of mine. It’s no secret I am a sucker for sunsets and tall grass, and this location brings them together beautifully! There are also trails, trees, and a few rocks as well. If you opt for the other side of the road from the tall grass and hills, you’ll find some gorgeous wooded trails.
Iverson Park
Iverson is an oldie, but a goodie. The biggest claim to fame is the beautiful bridges… my two favorite are the stone bridge and the big arching bridge. It connects to the Green Circle Trail so there are some wooded trails available. There is also a creek that goes right down the middle of it which is generally quite shallow. There are even parts that go just to your ankles which can make it possible for some fun splashy photos to end the session.
The Pond
The final location I want to share is one I actually have roughly 1/20th ownership of. We are lucky enough that the neighborhood we live in boasts an adorable pond with a trail around it. Everyone in the neighborhood is a co-owner of it, so it’s always very quiet and well-maintained. The pond has tons of grass, wildflowers, trees, and even wildlife! It’s a gorgeous spot.
